The Democracy in Birmingham database is designed to enhance the governance arrangements of the City Council and its modern democratic principles of accountability, openness and transparency.
It is important that you are able to find out what's going on as well as having easy and quick access to the information.
Birmingham City Council uses the Leader and Cabinet model of local government, which includes Overview and Scrutiny Committees as well as quasi-judicial Regulatory Committees such as Planning, Public Protection and Licensing. 'Democracy in Birmingham' is where you can find out about when the Cabinet and Committees meet, what they are going to discuss, and what decisions are being made on your behalf. There is an electronic council diary of past, present and future meetings with links to all relevant information. There are also links to many other relevant areas across the Council including your local Councillors, local Wards and the Council's Constitution. The full City Council meets on a monthly basis. All meetings are open to the public.
A network of District and Ward Committees, covering the 40 Wards and 10 District areas across the City, brings decision-making and the delivery of its services closer to the people of Birmingham.
Decisions are published here on a daily basis, with easy access to agendas and reports. You can access directly a particular meeting from within 'Democracy in Birmingham'.
There is an advance search facility to retrieve information, as well as the opportunity for you to register online with 'Democracy in Birmingham' to receive automatically information about meetings of particular interest, as soon as it is published.

Birmingham Shadow Health and Well-Being Board
A requirement to establish a Health and Wellbeing Board is one of the main aspects of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. The Board is seen as a key way to bring together the planning and commissioning of Health and Social Care and to ensure that decisions taken are in the best interests of local residents.
The Board is made up of a combination of Councillors, GPs, a Third Sector Assembly and a Birmingham Community Safety Partnership representative, a local NHS officer and Council officers, with input from the public through a representative of Healthwatch Birmingham. Since April 2013, the Board has been established as a Cabinet Committee under the Chairmanship of the Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing.
West Midlands Police and Crime Panel
Significant changes in police governance and accountability have been introduced with The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011, in particular replacing Police Authorities with elected Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs).
On 15 November the first Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for the West Midlands was elected. The PCC is responsible for deciding the priorities and budget for West Midlands Police, as well as supporting broader community safety activities across the region.

Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Transport Board (GBS LTB)
The GBS LTB has been established to prioritise and oversee the delivery of Local Major Transport Schemes, which will be delivered in the period 2015-2019, for the Greater Birmingham & Solihull area.
