Aston Advanced Manufacturing Hub Local Pinch Points bid

An application for Local Pinch Point funding has been made to the Department for Transport which seeks to support growth and relieve congestion.

As a key location for manufacturing, Birmingham is playing its part in the continued development and expansion of the UK economy. At a local level, investment is targeted at key Regional Investment Sites (RIS) which will build capacity in the local economy and support business growth. The Aston Advanced Manufacturing Hub aims to secure 3,000 new jobs for residents of the West Midlands. The AMH sits close to areas of high unemployment and is a target for Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) support and investment via the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Growing Places fund. However, local accessibility issues are continuing to restrict investment.

The junction of the B4137 Aston Hall Road and A5127 Lichfield Road is congested and has insufficient capacity to accommodate future development proposals. Whilst the AMH has a favourable strategic location being close to the M6 motorway, the poor design of the junction means that access to the AMH continues to be poor. The application for Local Pinch Point funding, therefore, aims to build on financial support provided by the HCA and LEP to improve access for those wishing to gain employment in the Aston AMH.
