The Background

Over the last 20 years, Birmingham has undergone a dramatic renaissance in all areas of city life, with a multi-billion pound regeneration programme successfully transforming the city centre into a vibrant regional capital with an increasingly important role on the national and international stage.

The focus of the regeneration programme is now shifting towards the south-west of the city, concentrated in the vicinity of the main arterial A38 Bristol Road, with the area renewal and growth pushing ahead.

To serve this, major improvements to transport and road infrastructure are underway, with new relief roads for Selly Oak and Northfield to reduce congestion on the current A38 Bristol Road, the main road through the area.
