Birmingham City Council's consultations

Welcome to Birmingham City Council's consultation portal.

Here you can find out about what consultation we are planning to undertake as well as having direct links to some key current consultations. The Council undertakes over 200 consultations every year. This ranges from consultations about major changes to the City such as the Big City Plan, to customer satisfactions surveys, to regular meetings with service users about possible changes in the way their services are delivered.

We also support over 250 forums where people can meet on a regular basis to help identify how services and neighbourhoods can be improved. The expertise that people who live, work and visit the city can provide is important to ensuring we get things right.

This website is being updated and so some services are unavailable.

Annual opinion surveys

Each year Birmingham City Council undertakes a major annual opinion survey interviewing thousands of adults who live in the City. This helps ‘take the pulse’ of what people are thinking and feeling about living in the city. It also collects some performance measures for some of our key services. People are selected at random to take part.

People's panel

Another way we check out what people think is through the 2,300 strong People’s Panel. Learn about the Birmingham People's Panel and how they influence decision making in the city.

Consultation guidance

If you are planning to undertake some consultation then here is some guidance to help you.

Talking Together; Working Together - An Engagement and Consultation Strategy for Birmingham City Council

This strategy was approved by the Council in October 2006 and sets out the Council’s objectives, principles, standards and planned actions to improve.

Be Heard database: We are developing a consultation database and hope to have it online by June 2009. This will enable you to search for consultations past and present, what people told us and what happened as a results. You will be able to register for electronic alerts to tell you of consultations about topics you are interested in.
