Community Network South West
CNSW Background
Community Network South West (CNSW) was set up in 2006 to work with communities in areas of South West Birmingham affected by the closure of the MG Rover plant in Longbridge. The programme came to an end on 31 December 2008.
The £1.5 million programme evolved from an already close network of multi-sector agencies working together as the Rover Community Support Board (CSB) at the time of the demise of the MG Rover plant. CNSW was the result of this multi-agency working, and a successful bid submitted on behalf of Birmingham City Council to Government Office West Midlands (GOWM) for European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). The grant was matched by 50% from the City Council, and aimed to target areas that had been most affected by the closure of the MG Rover plant (Community Economic Development (CED) areas), and rebuild sustainable communities and networks across South West Birmingham. CNSW covered CED areas in the following constituencies and wards:
Northfield Constituency - Northfield, Longbridge, Weoley and Kings Norton wards
Selly Oak Constituency - Bournville, Brandwood and Billesley wards
Edgbaston Constituency - Quinton and Bartley Green wards
This was the beginning of three years of cross-sector and cross-constituency partnership working to support the development of South West Birmingham's community and voluntary sector, and increase the number of volunteering, upskilling and employment opportunities there were for local unemployed residents.
The CNSW programme closed on 31 December 2008. For more information on CNSW please contact:
