Holland House Infant School Visit to Cityserve HQ

Holland House

On Monday 11th June we welcomed the students from Holland House Infant School into our brand new development kitchen – CityKitchen LIVE! in our HQ at Birmingham Science Park.

We had the pleasure of meeting Alex, Lydia, Ben, Ella, Ellie, Neve, Daniel, Amelia, Fallan, Evie, Ava and Joshua.  The group was chaperoned by Mrs Burrows, Miss Turley (Key Stage Leader) and Mrs Bond.

This is one of many groups we have had in recently that we have welcomed to our engagement centre and we are delighted to talk to them about our food and provenance and seek ideas for future school menus.

Our Executive Development Chef, Wayne Edge welcomed the team and introduced them to a range of fresh vegetables and fruit, all which are locally sourced. Chef Wayne discussed whether an avocado is a fruit or a vegetable and about which vegetables they all like – which was courgettes, peppers and broccoli. They didn’t like cauliflower!

Chef Wayne also talked about picking wild fruit and berries and that they should always have an adult with them to supervise just in case sometimes ‘goodies’ aren’t actually fruit and could be poisonous. A reminder to thoroughly wash anything picked was also in order.

Chef Lisa gave some instructions for sometimes it can get noisy in the kitchen so she said if we get to noisy she will shout “stop, look and listen” to get everyone’s attention.

Chefs’ Lisa and Wayne supervised the children in making their own pizza; Ava and Amelia made their pizza’s in the shape of a heart. Chef Wayne was keen for the children to try all the vegetables that they don’t like and put it on their own pizza they had made.

The eager learners then went to the Cityserve Boardroom to eat their creations.

On return Chef Wayne and Lisa supervised the creation of knickerbocker glories where each child chopped their own fruits, whisked the ice cream and created their own desserts .

Finally they had a go at writing their own menus.

Thank you for visiting us, Holland House Infants – A very well behaved group of ambassadors.
