The Abbey Catholic Primary School

On Friday 15/07/2016 we welcomed the students from Abbey Catholic Primary School into our development kitchen at our HQ in Birmingham Science Park.

The school were winners of our website subscription competition!

The group was chaperoned by Mrs Small, Mrs Howard and also Ian caretaker/mini bus driver who joined in too!!!

This is one of many groups we have recently welcomed to our innovation centre and we were delighted to talk to them about our food and provenance whilst seeking ideas for future school menus.

Our Executive Development Chef, Wayne Edge welcomed the team and Chef Lisa introduced them to a range of fresh vegetables and fruit all which are locally sourced. Lisa talked about the heritage tomatoes that were on display which we don’t see very often as they are larger than what we are used to. We discussed vegetables that they didn’t like in particular.

We had a competition for naming some of the vegetables and we had 2 winners which were our head chef and sous chef for the day and helped prepare the salad with Chef Ian and Lisa.

Chef Lisa gave some instructions for sometimes it can get noisy in the kitchen so she said if we get to noisy she will shout “stop, look and listen” to get everyone’s attention.

Chef Lisa and Chef Ian supervised the children in making their own pizza. The eager learners then went to enjoy their produce in the Cityserve boardroom. Chef Wayne joined them for lunch and asked if they enjoyed their pizzas – they said they enjoyed it more since they’d made it themselves.

On return Chef Wayne, Ian and Lisa supervised the creation of knickerbocker glories where each child chopped their own fruits, whisked the ice cream and created their own desserts.  A very well behaved group of ambassadors.
