Cityserve’s National School Meals Week 2016

Cityserve’s National School Meals Week 2016 celebrations received a terrific boost today when celebrity chef Glynn Purnell invited a school chef to come and work with him in the Michelin starred Purnell’s Restaurant on Cornwall Street, one of the city’s finest conservation areas. NSMW is scheduled for 31st October – 4th November and we are planning to celebrate all that is great about education catering with a number of high profile activities….watch this space for more information!
An extremely happy and almost disbelieving Chrissy Jackson, Catering Supervisor at the highly acclaimed Ark Rose Primary Academy in Kings Norton, has been chosen to spend a day working with Glynn and his team as part of the NSMW ‘Host a School Chef’ programme; the nationwide scheme is to demonstrate that today’s school chefs are skilled and knowledgeable caterers who can operate at the highest level.

Cityserve Client Manager, Claire Pettit, commented:
“I am absolutely delighted that Chrissy has been offered this placement and the opportunity to work with one of the country’s most celebrated chefs. Chrissy is a dedicated and hardworking individual who, along with her team, produces delicious, healthy and nutritious food on a daily basis for her ‘customers’ the pupils of Ark Royal Primary. I am sure that she will thoroughly embrace the experience of working with Glynn and it is very well deserved recognition for her contribution to Ark Rose Primary Academy.”

Glynn Purnell said:
“When I heard about the Host a School Chef concept for LACA’s National School Meals Week, I had no hesitation in offering a place at Purnell’s Restaurant and I am looking forward to welcoming Chrissy to our kitchen and working with her for the day. School caterers do a terrific job that often goes unheralded; there are few more important things in life, than making sure that our children are being well fed and nourished daily. The thousands of people that work in the school meals industry do just that every day of the school year and you have to be able to handle the pressure of preparing, cooking and serving, in many cases, hundreds of covers in a very short space of time. I am delighted to be involved and make a contribution to the celebrations”

Cityserve Revenue and Operations Manager, Cheryl Rudge said:

“Having Glynn involved in Cityserve’s NSMW activities is wonderful news and is recognition for all our school caterers who serve over 70,000 children per day in a 90 minute window. The quality and variety of our school food has never been better and we take our responsibility to protect the health and wellbeing of our students very seriously. Eating a healthy nutritious meal in the middle of the school day is important in maintaining concentration and helping to contribute towards an excellent learning environment. We are thrilled that Chrissy Jackson will have the opportunity to show that our school caterers are capable of working alongside the very best in the culinary world and I’m sure that she will be taking some new ideas back to Ark Rose Primary with her”
