Lorna West

We’re delighted to recognise Lorna West, Catering Supervisor at Balaam Wood School as our latest Colleague of the Month!

Mr D Garvey, Head Teacher at Ballam Wood School said:

“I am writing on behalf of myself, the pupils, the staff and Governing Body of Balaam Wood school in relation to the support we receive from City Serve staff connected to both catering and cleaning.
The Frankley Estate of Birmingham faces many challenges. Deprivation levels are amongst the highest in the city and this combined with the pupils arriving with a low level of prior attainment. As Head Teacher of the school, I have a clear vision and ethos that is founded upon achieving the best for all members of the communities. This would not be possible without the outstanding support afforded to the school by Lorna and her catering team in turn supported by Claire Pettit. Lorna and her team make a contribution to the school which goes far beyond any job description or allocation role.
I have been delighted with the support provided to the school by Joy Carter as we work together to further build on the success of the relationship between Balaam Wood School and City Serve. I would be grateful if the work of the City Serve Staff with in Balaam Wood could be noted at the most senior level of the organisation and I pass my gratitude on to all of your employees who work so hard to support our school.”

Claire Pettit, Lorna’s manager said:

“Whilst rolling out the LACA School Workforce Professional Development  standards at Balaam Wood School, I was very impressed with all the procedures and monitoring standards led by Lorna, that are in practise within the catering / kitchen department; All colleagues have received and continue to receive a wide range of training consisting of making sure all catering staff have an in date Food Hygiene qualification, Induction training, Competency based training, COSHH and HACCP all arranged or delivered by Lorna.

Lorna and her team cook and convey meals to five other venues within the area as well as the school she is based at; Lorna supports the conveyed venues either by phone or a visits if required. Additionally, she has assisted with the implementation and development of new school contracts during the last 12 months.

Lorna is a real ambassador for Cityserve and I’m proud to have her as part of my team.”

Lorna – keep up the great work, we think you’re amazing!
