Cityserve, Children in Care and Corporate Parenting

Published: Monday, 16th October 2017

Cityserve recently combined forces with Children in Care Provider Services,

Birmingham Children’s Trust, to provide five young people with a taster day. On the 13th and 14th October, the young people learnt how to prepare a meal for themselves, how to budget their meals and helped prepare for the awards event. It was fantastic to see the young people enjoying their experience, making new friends and growing in confidence.

The awards day was held on Saturday and a fabulous buffet was prepared by CityKitchen and the young people. All of the guests thoroughly enjoyed the food and the variety of healthy options available.

Natalie Loon, Corporate Parenting Co-ordinator commented “Thank you for an outstanding buffet which added a new dimension to our event. I have received nothing but positive comments from the young people, carers and partners. Secondly I would like to say thank you to Ian and the CityKitchen team for the fantastic taster days for our 5 young people”.

Heather Farrell, Corporate Parent Champion and Lead Mentor said “My mentee Sabrina commented on how friendly all the staff are, she felt comfortable and learnt a lot about preparing and presenting food.  She is so grateful for the opportunity and told me it was the best work experience placement she has ever had. Sabrina would like me to say thank you all for the opportunity.  Two of the young people would now like to pursue a career as a chef. Everyone helped the young people to engage, learn, get actively involved and grow in confidence”.

Cityserve love making a difference to the lives of children and young people.
