Holiday Kitchen

Cityserve is delighted once again to support Holiday Kitchen.

The school summer holidays are fast approaching and for many families in Birmingham, this means additional pressure on the family food budget. For many children it simply means hunger.  This project has been designed by Accord Group is partly funded by Brakes Meals and More programme to positively support families by providing holiday learning, food and play, when they need it most.

What happened last year?
During 2016 summer holidays 18 children’s centres ran 8 days of activities with families for 5328 participants, based around affordable healthy eating and informal play based learning activities. All of the centres provided these families with breakfast and lunch whilst they were there, saving the parents money and making sure that the children were adequately and nutritionally fed. All food last year was provided for free thanks to Fareshare, Cityserve, corporate sponsors and BBC Children in Need funding.

What can you do?
Holiday Kitchen 2017 is looking for potential public locations (e.g. schools) to run events and volunteers to help with the project; there are a variety of roles from helping deliver food to the sites that are participating, to cooking or helping to run/ supervise the daytime activities for the families to take part in.

If this is something that you are interested in participating in during the school summer holidays please contact Julie Harrison via email at Julie.m.harrison@birmingham.gov.uk.
