Make a difference – volunteer to become a school governor

Governors

Are you interested in a tremendous professional development opportunity that will make a difference to children’s lives?

If you are then please consider becoming a governor at one of our schools.

Governors perform the most important voluntary role in the country – akin to being a non-executive director of a company or a charity trustee in a climate of change and innovation, more diverse school structures and decision making powers.

It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that helps build and maintain an environment that provides children with the best possible education they can get.

It’s also great for career development because through governing you will acquire high level leadership and management skills that are transferable to the workplace, and will look great on your CV.

The time commitment required varies from school to school; a reasonable estimate is two to three hours over the course of a school term, depending on the school requirements. Birmingham City Council employees can receive up four days additional paid leave to undertake school governing duties (subject to the demands of their service).

There are vacancies on Governing Boards across the City and the School and Governor Support Team will help match you to a Governing Board in a suitable location that is best suited to your skills set.
