On Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th December we hosted the West Midlands, East Midlands and East of England Regional Finals for LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY).

LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) is a career high for any school chef across the UK, guaranteeing an exciting year ahead for whoever takes the top spot from Yorkshire & Humberside’s Tracy Healey, who triumphed in 2017. There is a £1,000 prize for the winner plus a work experience trip to an overseas school and a host of activities representing LACA and competition sponsor Maggi from Nestle Professional as School Chef of the Year. There are also two runner up prizes of £500 for 2nd place and £300 for 3rd place at the national final.

The heats saw Tanya Malone from Educaterers, Donna Spiers from Nottinghamshire County Council and Michael Goulston representing Hertfordshire Catering Services take the titles for the West Midlands, East Midlands and East of England regions respectively and will now prepare to go on to the finals next year.

Dale Wild, Cityserve’s Head of Service, said: “Hosting an event like SCOTY is a real coup for Cityserve and it was great to watch some of the UK’s best school chefs in action in our very own CityKitchen Live. “At Cityserve we’re all about championing our staff, the ones who make everything possible, and it’s great to welcome them as well as representatives from some of our fellow education caterers into our headquarters to showcase their skills.”

A special mention goes to our entry for the competition; Lorna West – Balaam Wood. Lorna’s dishes were well received by the judges and Lorna is even contemplating competing next year.
