BMHT now building bungalows for the over 55s

Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust are now building bungalows for the over 55s

A plan of the new dormer bungalows being
built by BMHT

If you are over 55 years old you could qualify for one of our new two-bedroom dormer bungalows.

Our new ‘dormer style’ two-bedroom properties have been designed to reflect national research into better housing for older people. They feature a ground floor double bedroom, shower room, lounge and kitchen together with a double bedroom and bathroom upstairs in the loft space, just like a traditional house. But if mobility becomes restricted, residents can simply live downstairs, leaving the upstairs accommodation for visitors or a live-in carer. The design helps people to maintain an independent lifestyle as they age and each home also has plenty of storage and access to its own private garden.

Pilot development schemes are now underway at:

  • White Farm Road in Sutton Coldfield, available from April this year

  • Woodside Road in Selly Oak, available from June 2014

To be eligible to bid for these new properties, tenants should be over 55 years of age, registered for a transfer and have been assessed for sheltered housing.

If you’re interested in either scheme please contact your local housing team now so that you can be helped with your transfer and supported housing assessment applications.
