Summer travel

Birmingham is a busy place this summer, please plan ahead and think about how you travel. Our advice is:

• Leave the car at home and travel by bus, train, Metro, bike, or on foot
• Car-share with family, friends, or colleagues
• Beat the traffic by travelling at quieter times
• Avoid travelling by working from home

Dartmouth Circus work package

From Friday 27 July (8pm) until Monday 30 July (6am) Dartmouth Circus (near Matalan) will be reduced to one operational lane only. These restrictions will be in place for the whole weekend 24 hours a day. Significant congestion is expected in the area, so please leave the car at home and travel by public transport, walk or cycle whenever possible. Alternative routes will be signed if driving is unavoidable.

Additionally, the Aston Expressway Underpass (into and out of city) will be closed overnight but open during the daytime.

Belgrave Interchange works

Overnight lane restrictions at the Bristol Road/Belgrave Interchange junction continue and will be in place from the earlier time of 8pm to 6am, Sunday to Thursday. This will mean noisier works can be carried out earlier in the evening, reducing disturbance to local residents.  Traffic at this junction continues to be controlled with temporary traffic signals. These works are part of the BCR A38 segregated cycle route from Selly Oak to the city centre.

Clean Air Zone consultation

Air pollution is linked to nearly 900 deaths in Birmingham every year. We are proposing a Clean Air Zone which means the most polluting vehicles must pay to enter the city centre. We want to hear your views, please go to www.birmingham.gov.uk/caz to have your say. This consultation closes on 17 August 2018.

You can also visit drop-in events taking place around the city. Forthcoming sessions are being held at:

• Saturday 28 July, midday to 4pm - All Saints Community Centre, King’s Heath
• Tuesday 31 July, 4pm to 8pm - Mere Green Community Centre
• Wednesday 1 August, 4pm to 8pm - Chris Bryant Centre, Erdington
• Thursday 2 August, 4pm to 8pm - The Fort Shopping Park
• Saturday 4 August, 10am to 2pm - One Stop Shopping Centre, Perry Barr

Park Safe Operation (#OpParkSafe)

West Midlands Police will continue to prosecute drivers who park dangerously. This includes vehicles obstructing pavements, causing traffic obstructions or those parked hazardously at junctions.

If you are travelling to Edgbaston for the England vs India Test Match (1 to 5 August) please note that the streets around the stadium are all residential and are subject to strict parking restrictions. It is also not acceptable to obstruct cycle paths or pavements. Please park considerately.

Vehicles parked on the footway adjacent to yellow lines can be reported to the council's parking team. If there are no restrictions, you can report dangerous parking to the local police by calling 101, the non-emergency number.

Euston Station closures

Euston Station will be closed for three weekends over the summer while Wembley Junction is replaced. The closures will take place on 18-19 August, 25-27 August and 1-2 September. Find out more about Euston Station summer weekend closures.
