Better Ways to School
Birmingham's Sustainable Modes of Travel Strategy
Birmingham City Council Sustainable Modes of Travel Strategy has been produced in response to the Education and Inspections Act 2006. This Act placed a duty on Birmingham City Council to promote the use of sustainable travel and transport on the school journey. The strategy sets out how Birmingham plans to develop and promote sustainable travel and transport within the city, so that the needs of children and young people are better catered for.
The Strategy has four main objectives
- Increase the use of sustainable travel on the journey to and from school
- Work with all Birmingham Schools to develop and implement a school travel plan by 2011
- Provision of infrastructure to support sustainable travel
- Foster shared ownership and a partnership approach to sustainable travel to school
Birmingham's Sustainable Modes of Travel Strategy has recently been reviewed and adopted. The document is now available as an attachment below.
