 | | The Aston Local Plan, adopted in September 1998 |
The Aston Local Plan addresses a
range of planning and transportation issues in north Aston and Witton.
This area is in the Perry Barr Parliamentary Constituency approximately
4 kilometres north east of the city centre. The most significant issue
is the impact caused by Aston Villa Football Club. One of the plan's
main objectives is to provide the context for any future development of
the Aston Villa Football Club ground. It recognises the benefits of
creating a 'European Class' stadium which could potentially host major
events and promote the City on the international stage, but also
highlights the need to ensure that any proposal does not place
additional and unacceptable burdens on the local community.
The
Council has approved planning applications, submitted by Aston Villa
Football Club to expand the stadium capacity to accommodate 50,000 fans.
These applications are supported by a legal agreement which will help
bring about environmental and recreational improvements in the area, and
transport measures which will deal with traffic problems. Although the
Trinity Road Stand is now completed, the applications allow the North
Stand to be extended further to increase capacity to 50,000 seats.
