What are BCC’s Priorities for the Arts in 2012-13?

In 2012-13 we are inviting proposals for activities which contribute to the following priorities.

  • Increasing participation in the arts by residents
  • Improving perceptions of Birmingham as a place to visit
  • Providing opportunities for young people to develop their creativity, skills, knowledge and understanding of the arts under our Creative Future framework

The Arts Commissioning prospectus sets out the process for making an application to be commissioned under three themes.

  • Culture on Your Doorstep – for local activities in Priority Neighbourhoods
  • Great International City – for activities which support the development of international links
  • Next Generation – for activities for 0-19s in Birmingham

We strongly advise that you contact us prior to making an application and that organisations who have not previously applied for support arrange an advice surgery.

To apply for Arts Commissioning please see the attached prospectus, application form, associated documents, advice and guidance.

Priority Neighbourhoods

Working with key partners, Be Birmingham has identified 25 priority neighbourhoods and six neighbourhood clusters as the focus of the neighbourhoods programme which involves local agencies working together with communities to join up services and improve outcomes at a neighbourhood level.

This involved a mapping exercise to highlight Super Output Areas falling within the worst 5% nationally for multiple deprivation. These were then grouped together to form neighbourhoods of a population up to 15,000. The formation of clearly defined neighbourhoods is an enabling catalyst for the delivery of successful neighbourhood management.

For further information or advice about Priority Neighbourhoods contact Richard Browne, Partnership Manager, T: 0121 303 0050, E: richard.browne@birmingham.gov.uk

Priority Neighbourhood profile information is also available on the Be Birmingham Website, to find out if a postcode is in a Priority Neighbourhood use the Find a Postcode? tool at the top of the Be Birmingham Local Website.

Community Cohesion

Birmingham’s diversity is fundamental to its social and economic future. We relish the cultural and entrepreneurial energy that comes from bringing together different perspectives, orientations and traditions. We honour our past and the industrial base on which we were built, whilst celebrating the fact that we have the youngest population of any major European city. We welcome the international links that our people have with powerful emerging economies. We aim to be both diverse and inclusive.
