Walmley Local Action Plan - Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG)

This Local Action Plan was prepared to co-ordinate the investment and outline a range of other planning proposals to provide a new country park in Newhall Valley, and to enhance and improve local facilities in Walmley Centre, Sutton Coldfield.

The proposals include

• a new country park
• measures to support the local shopping centre
• introducing traffic management measures
• improving the built environment and
• expanding the local library and community facilities.

The plan was adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance in May 2002.

Many of the proposals in the plan have been implemented. Newhall Valley is now a Country Park, laid out and designed to improve local access to and enjoyment of the countryside with a series of public footpaths, cycleways and two children's play areas. The land will now be managed to maintain and promote nature conservation and its historic character.

A copy of the plan is below along with a map showing the area covered by the proposals. Please note that the shopping policy contained in paragraph 8.3 has been superseded by the Shopping and Local Centres SPD, adopted in March 2012.
