Service Birmingham is Birmingham City Council’s joint venture with
Capita Business Services. By providing world-class information and
communications technology (ICT) systems, Service Birmingham is
transforming the way the Council operates, by improving services,
cutting costs and increasing job satisfaction. Investment in ICT also
forms the bedrock of the Council’s transformation programme, which aims
to deliver cost savings of £1bn over 10 years.
World
Class Technology
Since April 2006, Service Birmingham has
implemented major enhancements to the Council’s ICT infrastructure,
including a £2m investment in a new server estate.
We’ve
consolidated seven service desks into two and are rationalising 550
applications to 150. As a result, email speed is up 500%, traffic has
grown 30% and reliability has increased significantly. The number of
help desk calls now answered within 20 seconds has increased from 40% to
nearly 90%.
Business Transformation
Impressed by
this performance, the Council has expanded Service Birmingham’s role.
The
Council is undertaking a Business Transformation programme, which is the
largest and most ambitious of its kind. As the Council’s Strategic
Partner, Service Birmingham is contributing to the delivery of Business
Transformation by working alongside the Council to identify
opportunities for service improvements.
Business Transformation
is a long-term programme, and Service Birmingham’s goal is to help the
Council to deliver cost savings of £1billion over ten years through more
efficient ways of working. The Corporate Services Transformation
programme has already made significant cost savings for the Council.
